PAMELA ANDERSON was the first choice to play Dana Scully in The X-Files it was revealed today.

The surprise revelation that makers Twentieth Century Fox wanted the blonde former Baywatch babe to play the FBI special agent comes from Gillian Anderson who made the role her own after the show began in 1993.

Gillian, 39, said: “They were looking for someone bustier, taller, leggier than me. They couldn’t fathom how me and David Duchovny could equal success.

“They wanted somebody (Pamela Anderson) who was more familiar to them in terms of what was on TV at the time.

“At the beginning nobody trusted that I could do anything. I had no body of work behind me at all, and certainly, makers Fox felt very strongly that I wasn’t the right person for the job.”

The TV was an international hit until 2002 and now Gillian is back as Scully in new movie The X-Files: I Want To Believe released on August 1.
